It’s the drivetrain that truly separated the early Amarok from its rivals. Others were pushing big engines, where Volkswagen went with a more refined, smaller powertrain and it just made sense for what needed to be accomplished.
2.0L Bi-Turbo Diesel Engine (TDI420/TDI400)
Di dn’t be deceived by the 2.0-litre measurement. This is a pinnacle of German tech. This double whammy system is served by a pair of sequential turbochargers to deliver a seamless wave of torque from tick-over to rev-limiter. A smaller, high-efficiency capalisation turbo thrusts immediate low-speed response up to the range where maximum power is available for positivity in acceleration and speed. As the revs rise, a bigger turbo comes online to produce the range-topping horsepower required for highway overtaking or cresting a mountain top with your bed full of stuff.
Our 2014 vehicle has this popular engine and it was running perfectly before being retired with [e.g., 155,000] carefully travelled kilometres on the clock. We have video of the engine running showing its good health. The 8-Speed ZF Automatic Transmission
This is certainly one of the most incredible things about this vehicle. The 8-speed automatic transmission developed by the famous German transmission expert ZF, is the same family of gearbox in high-end luxury cars from BMW (including Rolls Royce), Jaguar and Audi. It’s famous for its ultra-creamy, almost seamless gearshifts, its brute power and its thoughtfully designed gearbox that keeps the engine in the sweet spot of its powerband.
To replace one or rebuild one of these boxes is a very costly task. This checked over gearbox is out of our donor Amarok, and is ready to go to give you years more trouble free motoring.
